How to Be Our Guest
For the first stay, a family makes arrangements through the Family Services Department at the hospital where the child is to receive treatment and is placed on a waiting list at the House, not more than five days prior to your scheduled arrival. Room assignment is determined by the date you were placed on the waiting list. Please call once per day to check on availability. When a room becomes available the manager on duty will call you. Families should check in or out between 9:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. daily. Returning families should contact the House directly at (414) 475-5333.
Policies
Health Care
The medical policy at the Ronald McDonald House is that health care providers are allowed to give limited treatments or assessments at the Ronald McDonald House.
- If health care is required for a child, a parent or guardian should notify the RMHC House Director or Manager on duty for the appropriate procedures and agreements that require your signatures.
- All medical equipment and medication deliveries must be signed and accepted by a parent or guardian only.
- Responsibility for disposal of medical wastes, needles or sharps is that of the guest.
- Our House is a non-smoking facility.
Guest Room Inspection
In order to maintain health and sanitary measures for all guests, the House Director will inspect:
- The guest rooms are inspected on a monthly basis.
- Any other rooms where there is a concern that House safeguards are not being followed.
Child Supervision
The House is not able to provide baby-sitting services because of Wisconsin child care regulations and insurance restrictions. Children are to be attended to and supervised by a parent or family member at all times. This includes the times while you are watching television or playing video games
Visitors
Due to the fact that many families share this House, please limit the number of visitors brought into the House. Guests are responsible for their visitors and their actions while they are here at the House. For the safety of all our families, visitors must be disease free.
Food and Beverages
- No food or beverages are allowed in your room; they are to be consumed only in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Some food staples are provided by the House but most food must be supplied by the guest.
* NOTE: All food is to be kept in the kitchen refrigerators or your pantry locker. The kitchen refrigerators are cleaned out weekly so it is very important to label your food with your name and room number. Please keep grocery shopping to a minimum.
Age
RMHC aligns with the definition provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics, which states that pediatric patients are newborns, infants, children, adolescents, and young adult patients through age 21 years.
Marital Status
If parents of a child are under 18, and they are married, they may stay at the Ronald McDonald House but must provide a copy of their marriage license on check-in. An unmarried minor parent may stay at the Ronald McDonald House only if he/she is accompanied by their parent(s) or legal guardian at all times. His/her significant other may not stay at the House at the same time.
RMHC Outpatient
Outpatient families are welcome to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
If a family needs to stay at the RMH while their child is being seen on an ongoing outpatient basis, RMH requests a form from the manager on duty to be signed by the attending physician stating that the patient needs to be in close proximity to the hospital, and stating required treatments per week.
Infectious Disease
As the children being treated in local health facilities have serious diseases, it is imperative that guests, employees, volunteers and visitors of the House are disease free.
If we have notification or knowledge that a guest has had or been exposed to any infectious disease they must submit a signed document from their attending physician to the Executive Director or House Manager that they have received the appropriate treatment before returning to the House.
